Welcome to Embroidery Concept Store!
I’m Inês – passionate about embroidery and founder of this small (large) project dedicated to free embroidery.
This store was born out of a deeply personal impulse: an almost sudden desire to install a certain creative chaos into a life that, until then, had been comfortable… and predictable. I felt that I needed to believe that there was more for me – yes, here comes the cliché – even if it meant taking a 180-degree turn from routine, taking risks and embracing the unknown.
I heard phrases like “you’re not quitting because of that, are you?” or “nobody wants to know how to do anything with their hands anymore”. But for me, each comment was just another push in the right direction.
This project became a challenge, an act of courage, a way of surpassing myself – and, above all, a reunion with myself.
Embroidery Outside the Box
In addition to the emotional impulse, there was also a very practical reason: I realized that in Portugal there were no stores dedicated exclusively to free embroidery.
As a customer, I experienced first-hand what it was like to wander from store to store – between haberdasheries and stationery stores – looking for what I needed… and leave, all too often, empty-handed and frustrated.
Buying online wasn’t any better either: the uncertainty about colors, textures or quality made everything a guessing game. And in the midst of this, I realized something even bigger – embroidery here was still seen as something from the past, stuck in an old-fashioned idea, with no place in the present.
Embroidery Concept Store was also born to counteract this: to prove that embroidery can be a modern, creative practice full of possibilities.
Embroidery is Caring
More than a store, this space is also a message.
I deeply believe in the healing power of the manual arts – and embroidery in particular.
At a time when we live surrounded by noise, haste and information overload, embroidering with our hands is a gesture of pause. A reunion. An act of beauty and presence.
I know what it’s like to look for a safe haven – and sometimes finding it starts with something as simple as a thread, an embroidered flower or a texture between your fingers. Embroidery is deeply sensory, and that’s what I’m passionate about: the colors, the sounds, the small gestures repeated with intention.
It really is addictive.
I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that as you explore this space and pick up the needle, you find the same joy, meaning and serenity that embroidery has brought – and continues to bring – to my life.
