“Sashiko 365” by Susan Briscoe

A Sashiko pattern for every day of the year – this was the challenge set by world expert Susan Briscoe. Sashiko (刺し子), an ancient Japanese art with humble origins, has found its place in contemporary textile art: it involves geometric patterns embroidered on cotton fabrics, typically in indigo, used to reinforce utilitarian fabrics. Today we find sashiko embroidery in slow fashion and interior design. The revival ofthis tradition is also due to the calming and satisfying effect it has on those who practice it.
